PA DUTCH SHOOFLY PIE

INGREDIENTS:

Filling:
1 cup molassas
2 cups light brown sugar
1 egg
2 cups room temp water
1Tbs baking soda

Crumbs:
3 cups flour
1cup light brown sugar
1/2 cup Shortning, Crisco or butter

INSTRUCTIONS:

1. Mix all the filling ingredients thoroughly.
2. Mix all the crumb ingredients in a seperate bowl.
3. Prepare three of your favorite pie shells.
4. Divide filling equally into the three pie shells.
5. Spread the crumbs on top of the filling.
6. Make 4 or 5 holes in the crumbs with a spoon.
7. Bake at 350F for 40 to 45 minutes.

Notes: I have had pies bake over, likely due to a hole in the crust, the oven tends to get messy when this occurs. A cookie sheet on the rack below the pies is a good precaution.
