1 Sarah Lee Pound Cake or 2 dozen lady fingers
1/2 lb Baker's German sweet chocolate
4 Tablespoons sugar
4 Tablespoons hot water
4 egg yolks, lightly beaten
1 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
4 egg whites, beaten till stiffened
1 cup cream, whipped
INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Melt chocolate in double boiler
2. Add sugar, yolks, and water
3. Cook on low until smooth, stirring constantly
4. Cool, then add vanilla (see note)
5. Fold in beaten egg whites
6. Layer serving dish with pound cake/lady fingers
7. Pour chocolate pudding mixture over cake
8. Repeat until dish is full
9. Chill
10. Top with whipped cream (see Whipped Cream recipe)
Notes:
- If concerned about salmonella from the egg whites add the egg whites while the mixture is still hot. This will result in denser less fluffy pudding but what's a little less fluff compared to hanging onto the toilet.
